What's his position (off the court)?

POLITICAL SUPPORT: Curry has been a longstanding supporter of the Democratic party. He has a close relationship with former president Barack Obama and has also appeared with him at an event advocating for black education rights. During the 2020 Democratic National Convention, Curry endorsed Joe Biden and has also been appointed to Biden’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

ANTI-TRUMPISM: Curry is an outspoken critic of former president Donald Trump. The two had a brief feud after Curry refused to visit the White House after his team won the NBA Championship in 2017. He has also implied in an interview that Trump is a serious “threat” to the US presidency.

SOCIAL ACTIVISM: As a co-chair of Michelle Obama’s voting initiative, Curry advocates for the expansion of voting rights – a reform bill that would address voter registration and access – as well as gun safety. Curry was also a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award, which honors those who fight for social justice and similar causes.

PHILANTHROPY: Curry has helped foster youth participation and interest in sports on multiple occasions. For instance, he has donated to Howard University to aid in relaunching the men’s and women’s sports programs and has funded golf programs in diverse communities. His family also started the “Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation” to fight against childhood hunger.

Curry’s consistent support for and close relationship with several high-profile figures in the Democratic Party, as well as his public criticism of Donald Trump helps to secure his position as a supportive Democrat. His advocation for predominantly liberal causes in the spheres of social activism and philanthropy – including gun control and diversity in sports – further cements his position as a “liberal” player off the court.
