LGBTQ+ RIGHTS & INCLUSIVITY: Hawk has publicly supported LGBTQ+ rights prior the legalization of same-sex marriage. In July 2014, he participated in the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) “Americans for Marriage Equality” campaign. In a video for the campaign, Hawk stated “That’s how I feel about marriage equality; we all deserve to follow our hearts.” Additionally, in 2022, Hawk showed fond support for transgender skateboarders and stated in an interview with Skateism, “I like events when it’s all-inclusive.”

PHILANTHROPY: Following the police killing of George Floyd in 2020, Hawk and his team at his nonprofit “The Skatepark Project,” launched a fellowship program that trained young, diverse skaters which ultimately aimed at empowering and supporting a new generation of minority leaders. Funded in part by Hawk’s $125,000 win on Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, the initiative also seeks greater representation for LGBTQ+ and Indigenous communities.

GENDER EQUALITY: In the same 2022 interview with Skateism, Hawk stated, “It’s about time that women’s skateboarding becomes more than just a novelty or a matter of aesthetics” and “…it’s definitely not as equal as it should be.“ Although Hawk has not explicitly stated that he is a feminist, his advocacy for gender inclusive communities within skateboarding align with feminist principles.
